o   Growing Stock of Timber have increased from 17,430M Cubic Meters in 1953 to 23, 650M Cubic Meters in 1997

o   There are significant increases of resources (gold, silver, copper, bauxite) as measured from 1950 to 1990, the only exception is tin.

o   More is being discovered every day

o   Corn production has increased from 20 bushels per acre in 1866 to 150 bushels per acre in 2000

o   Oil production has increased from 10 million barrels a day to 90 million barrels a day in 2010.  Proven Oil reserves throughout the world are 4,284.8 billion barrels of oil of which the US holds 972.6 with more discoveries each year.

·         How Crowded are we?

o   The most intense population density of any country in the  world is Singapore with 18645 persons per square mile

o   The US population density is 84 persons per square mile

o   Mexico has a population density of 145 persons per square mile

·         Why don’t we run out of natural resources?

o   Nature has no inventory of natural resources

o   There are unlimited resources expanded by: conservation, substitution, exploration and invention

·         It has been determined that the greatest resource is the human mind that constantly seeks new ways to discover and retrieve vital resources.

Guest Speaker

Frank Sherman introduced Rich Lorey, President of King George Tea Party who provided a sobering account regarding the disrespectful handling and disposal of unidentified body parts of our service men and women. They were cremated, and turned over to a private contractor for disposal. Early reports on the numbers of remains "processed" in this manner vary from 247 to thousands. It seems they were then transported from Dover, Delaware to King George, Virginia where they were then combined with the general waste accepted by the landfill at the King George County Solid Waste and Recycling Center.

Rich is spearheading an effort to procure and place a memorial plaque, perhaps at the King George Courthouse. If you are moved to contribute towards this worthwhile endeavor, here's how.

Donations must be in the form of a check made out to

American Legion Post 89

The Memo line should contain the word "Memorial".

Checks should be mailed to

Reports

Roger reported an update on S.1867, brought to our attention by Catherine Crabill. She explained that Americans declared as terrorists could be held without any Constitutional rights by the military under provisions of this bill.  Rodger reports he studied the bill at length and suggested members review sections 1021 and 1022.  Based on his review, he believes that American citizens are probably exempt from these clauses, however the problem is not in the bill (which he does not like) but in the President. Mr. Obama will violate any aspect of the Constitution he pleases.  This we should fear more.  Rodger recommends we remain vigilant, very vigilant.

Announcements

  • Rodger announced the annual Lobby Days on January 16th at the Bell Tower in Richmond.  Excellent event to show our legislators we’re there and we’re watching. Let’s get maximum participation – we’ll be setting up car pools and drivers.  Please email or call Dee Meredith of your intention to participate and if you can drive or need a ride. Would be nice if someone could help her out by starting a phone bank.
  • Rodger/Frank advised the he Virginia Tea Party Patriot Federation has plans to organize into a group of committees called CoLa (Cooperative Legislative Action.)  CoLA is now focused on backing legislation which represents our core beliefs. We will need the assistance of all hands to overcome special interest groups and spring our bills out of committee.

This year CoLA is going to target key legislators serving on committees reviewing our high priority bills and ask its Tea Party members to lobby their legislators for passage.  As a participant you would receive either a phone call or an e-mail alert.  This alert will identify the bill by name and number and ask you to quickly call your representative requesting passage.

It’s important to note that you will only be alerted  if one of our Senators or Delegates is involved on a specific committee.  This means only Richard Stuart, Ryan McDougal, or Margaret Ransone. This also means that relatively few alerts should be sent to us

At our meeting on December 20th, all members present voted 40 to 0 to send the mailing list of our members to the VTPPF and enroll all MTP members in the Action Alert plan.  Steps have been taken for this purpose.  Our data will not be shared with any other group nor even be seen by the VTPPF leadership. They will only decide which voting district should be alerted.

Virginia’s 99th District Tea Party – Montross

Minutes

6 December 2011

President Frank Sherman called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  President Sherman then led the Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.

Guest Speaker the first

Frank introduced Courtney Lynch a Democrat candidate for the US senate.  She owns a small company in Northern Virginia.  Courtney explained that she is running because she wants to restore the American dream and there are no citizen candidates. She wants to get America moving forward by restoring leadership and making the Federal government much more business friendly.

She plans to do this by:

  • Reduce size of government by focusing on its 3 core areas- veterans, children and elderly.  These are the most vulnerable.
  • Simple solutions are best.
  • Tax code must be simplified.
  • Would revise Dodd-Frank finance bill to be business friendly
  • Government/business partnerships would make U S a global power again
  • “Obamacare” is noble idea but Federal government cannot dictate to states
  •  Would grant amnesty to illegals through protracted service to the U S after our borders were sealed.
  • Favors abortion.
  • Thinks Tea Party will help U S but now has bad national image.

Guest Speaker the second

Catherine Crabill explained the dangers hidden in the National Defense Appropriations bill now being reconciled in the Senate.  Americans declared as terrorist can be held without any Constitutional rights by the military under provisions of this bill.  Definitions are vague enough that the Tea Party could be easily included.  She wants an all out effort to overturn S.1867.

Announcements

  • Rodger announced there is a Tea Party Rally in Richmond on 7 December against the 2 man debate sponsored by the Main Stream Media.  This rally was an idea which came from the Montross Tea Party.
  • Rodger stated that the recent meeting requested by the Governors Policy team with the Federation, and the questionnaire sent by Delegate Ransone indicate that the Tea Party is acquiring a little standing.
  • Bill Readers for CoLA can get on-line training Thursday night, 8 December.
  • Pat Weakland announced that the Sunday Parade in Warsaw was so popular that we now plan to participate in the Tappahannock Christmas parade on 10 December.
  • Our new sign costs $250 & will be up soon; the second one is on hold.

There were no county reports but President Sherman implored members to attend Westmoreland BOS meetings on 12/7 and 12/12.

Next Meeting

Dr Cirniglia will discuss the problems in the new health care law known as Obamacare.

The meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m.

Minutes

November 1, 2011

President Frank Sherman called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.  Ray Dabney led the Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance, then gave the Treasurer’s Report. Lynn read our core principles.

Guest Speaker

Frank introduced Tim Donner, Republican Candidate for the US Senate.  Tim operates a small video production company in Northern Virginia.  He explained that he was reluctant to get involved with politics until Nancy Pelosi and her cronies walked arm and arm with her colleagues to the Capitol to vote Obamacare into law regardless of what the majority of the American People wanted.

  • He wants to work to limit the size and scope of the government. He says that the liberals won’t tell us what they mean.
  • Our government borrows 40 cents of every dollar spent.
  • Hope and Change has turned to Fear and Loathing.
  • If elected senator, he would vote against higher spending, against higher taxes.
  • The liberals know we’re right because they have turned to name calling.
  • He is a Proponent for School Choice Programs, Bold leadership for Liberty.
  • He claims that the Donner campaign is operating in the black while Jackson and Radtke campaigns are operating in debt (unsubstantiated).
  • Donner claims he can consolidate support from conservatives to push the conservative agenda.
  • Donner suggests (and the board concurs) that members need to write letters to the Allen Campaign expressing outrage over the fact that he will not debate any of the Republican candidates,

            Write George Allen

            2819 North Parham Road

            Suite 210

            Henrico, VA 23294

  • Donner claims he will debate anywhere, anytime (we’ve heard similar offers for debates from Radtke and Jackson),
  • Nor will the Virginia Republican party push Allen to debate.  Montross TP also encourages members to write letters to Republican Party of Virginia, the Capitol Press Association, and Pat Mullins to demand all US Senate candidate debate

Discussion

·         Many of the members voiced their desire to see the TEA Party become more aggressive, to include the endorsement of candidates and a presentation on the topic.  Rodger mentioned the board’s work on investigating of other groups who have backed candidates.  There was no debate of this topic due to time constraints (The MTP Board is working to investigate and develop a presentation to the membership.)

Announcements

  • Rodger announced the signs the TP will put up will carry political messages covered by the Freedom of Speech

Next Meeting

  • Will feature A DVD Presentation of Sustainable Development – The Problem

Reports:

  • Richmond Country – It’s not too late to stop construction of the new high school.  Incumbents favor construction, challengers are against.
  • Adopt-A-Highway clean up November 5, 9am at the Tractor Supply in Warsaw
  • Election November 8th – VOTE!

The meeting adjourned at 9:02 p.m.

“ A political party dedicated to genuinely limited government – not small government – is an urgent political task.  Whether the TEA Party is up to this task remains to be seen – but is probably our best hope.  The TEA Party will have to learn, however, that the task today is not to weaken the power of the government – it is to confine the government to the exercise of it’s delegated powers and to restore to its full vigor the partly national, partly federal form of government.” Edward J. Erler, Professor of Political Science, California State Univ.
